The August Shoot: Convergence Paris

Moving forward, stepping ahead ever forward! That's what we continue to do, despite applying and waiting for film funding. If you look at what we've done so far you may or may not realize that we are making our way, little by little, to our biggest shoot which will be in New York.
Now, literally taking our show on the road to Paris, France, we're sure it will present opportunities and new partnerships to pursue. Each location has had its unique challenges and positive attributes, not to mention interview subject schedule shuffles and equipment glitches!
This year was the beginning of principal photography (the beginning of filming) for our production company's film, CHARIVARI a fashion UPROAR. We've had film shoots in January, April, July and this past August; and we can't tell you how rewarding it is to actually see our ideas expressed visually on film.
This is our first international shoot on this film, we saw Paris through different eyes as opposed to just being roaming tourists. We looked for and discovered sights and angles to include as B-roll (the extra footage captured to enrich the telling of our story, and to give us greater flexibility when editing). And of course, we searched and found the fashion houses—in the native city of haute couture fashion—that were relatively young during Charivari's tenure.
To make this happen we all converged in Paris...
Corinne Delemazure
Designer of Charivari's Sans Tabours Ni Trompettes & STNT returned to Paris from Les Châteaux of the Loire Valley (a region between Sully-sur-Loire and Chalonnes, made up of historic towns with beautiful architectural heritage sites scattered throughout) in order to grant us the interview. In fact it is roughly 1.5 hours outside Paris by train.
Ray Raymakers
Designer of Charivari's Silkrays flew in from Holland to spin his memories into fine threads of true tales and how the line he created came to be with his association with the Weiser family.
Both Corinne and Ray spoke of the history they shared and their part to play in how the Charivari brand was built; the in-house clothing lines, which added to the Weiser’s vision of—what Charivari was.
Most of the morning's shoot was inside Corinne's intimate studio, while outside lacked the normal Paris hum and hustle, remember it was August. August is the month the people of Paris partake in an annual mass exodus to the south of France for vacation...
Chris Birney's journey began in London where he boarded the Eurostar (the high-speed railway service connecting London with Paris) which whisked him under the English Channel, or as the French call it - la Manche - just to tell us of his experience at Charivari!
Laura Boyle was our local interviewee, and although she didn't travel far to join us, her memories were the first to bring to life stories of the Women's store, the first Charivari store.
We thank them all for traveling far and near and giving us their valuable time to add to our story. And on our last night we cruised along the Seine. The sun began its descent as the city slowly illuminated its buildings, monuments and bridges. We gazed through the glass roof panels as though they were lenses of our camera—in our minds capturing... thoughts and recollections in the city of lights.
For now we continue to learn and explore production techniques before heading to New York, which will undoubtedly be our most comprehensive shoot. And yes, in Europe all tasks were accomplished through various degrees of challenges and enthusiasm. But moving on, the sense of progress and satisfaction at the conclusion of yet another shoot day makes for great fulfillment and really does make it all worthwhile…
Á bientôt!
